Charges

Additional Activities organised for pupils - charges and remissions

Introduction

The Governing Body recognises the valuable contribution that the wide range of additional activities, including clubs, trips and residential experiences can make towards pupils' personal and social education.

School Times

All calculations are based on the school hours:

Morning session 8:45am - 1:00pm
Afternoon session 1:55pm - 3:20pm


Charges

The Governing Body reserves the right to make a charge in the following circumstances for activities organised by the school:-

General Issues

The Governing Body may, from time to time amend the categories of activity for which a charge may be made.

Nothing in this policy statement precludes the Governing Body from inviting parents to make a voluntary contribution toward the cost of providing education for pupils.


The Governing Body reserves the right to make a charge in the following circumstances for activities organised by the school:-

School Journeys in School Hours
All residential journeys within school hours are closely monitored by Governors and the following procedure adhered to:-

i) Permission must be gained from the Governors in light of disruption to school.

ii) Leave of absence for staff must be obtained.

iii) Supply cover as necessary.

iv) Insurance cover from Suffolk (plus personal indemnity)

v) Letter to parents advertising trip must make it clear that insufficient payees will result in cancellation.

Activities Outside of School Hours
The full cost to each pupil of the following activities deemed to be optional extras taking place outside school hours:-

Residential Journeys taking place mainly at weekend or school holidays;

Trips and events held after school hours such as school discos, theatre trips, school concerts, sports events etc.
 

Damages
Charges may still be made for the cost of replacing damages, defacing, loss of equipment etc. resulting from pupil’s behaviour.

Materials
The Governing Body may charge for materials or require them to be provided if parents have indicated in advance that they wish to own the finished product.

Statements of Account
An itemised statement of account is provided by each member of staff who receives payment for any trip within or outside school hours. The statements are given to the school bursar for reference.

Remissions
There may be circumstances when family hardship makes it difficult for pupils to take part in particular activities for which a charge is made. In such cases, the parents of a pupil who are in receipt of income support or family credit may apply in confidence for remission, in part or full. Authorisation of remission will be made by the Headteacher in consultation with the Chairman of Governors.
